Port Things Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Port Things is a travel guide app holding offline guides to cruise ports and destinations around the world. This policy explains what Port Things does (and does not do) with information on your device.

TL;DR

Information stored on your device

Port Things stores the following on your device, in your iPhone's local app storage. None of it is transmitted to Port Things, the developer, or any third-party server.

To delete all of this data, delete the Port Things app from your device.

Network requests

Port Things makes the following anonymous network requests to populate venue content. None of these requests include personally identifying information about you, your account, or your device beyond what the operating system and the remote service automatically observe (your IP address).

Port Things has no servers of its own. There is no Port Things backend that sees your usage.

Purchases

Port Things is a paid app that includes two guides of your choice. You can buy more guides, cruise-region packs or all guides inside the app. Every purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details; the app only receives Apple's confirmation of which guides you own.

Your included guides and iCloud

So your two included guides survive a reinstall or a new iPhone, the app saves which guides you picked in your own iCloud account using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. That record contains only guide names and the date you picked them. It lives in your iCloud account, and we cannot read it.

Photo downloads

When you own a guide, its photos download from Apple's servers (App Store on-demand resources) and are kept on your device so they work at sea. No personal information is sent with these downloads.

Optional location

Port Things can optionally access your device location to sort venues by distance ("nearest first"). This is purely optional and uses iOS's standard location-permission dialog.

Children

Port Things is a travel guide for groups, which may include children. Children of any age can be added as group members. No information about anyone you add to a group is ever transmitted off your device. Port Things is not directed specifically at children and does not knowingly collect information from children, because it does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Your rights

Because Port Things does not collect or store any data about you on any server, there is no account to delete and no data export to request. To delete the data you have created in the app, delete the app from your device.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Port Things handles information, the updated policy will be posted at this URL and the "Last updated" date above will change. Substantive changes will also be noted in app release notes.
